Today’s children and young people are growing up in an increasingly complex world. This presents many positive and exciting opportunities but also challenges and risks.
In this environment, children and young people need educating on how to be safe and healthy and how to manage their academic, personal and social lives in a positive way. We believe that this work is an important part of safeguarding children.
Our Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education programme of study at Rowanfield is based on the the Gloucestershire Healthy Living and Learning (GHLL) People in the Know (PinK) curriculum.
It has been has been written by the Healthy Living and Learning team of Lead Teachers to meet the holistic needs of all children and young people. Its aim is to support the development of the necessary skills and knowledge that our children need to lead a happy, safe, healthy life. This encompasses topics such as Healthy Eating, Emotional Health and Well Being, Financial Capability, Drugs (including Alcohol) and RSE (Relationship and Sex Education).
We also have a whole school focus through the year on Anti-bullying and Mindfulness as well as ongoing programmes led by the pastoral team to support individuals and groups.
You can find our RSE Policy here. These were made available for consultation and feedback between November 2021 and February 2022.
Here is a link to a digital version of a GLA parent information sharing session for you to watch to gain more knowledge and understanding about our programme, why we teach it, where it fits alongside our other compulsory subjects and how it is delivered.
The content of the R(S)HE curriculum offer (as detailed in the Curriculum Overview above) will be delivered from January 2022.
The units the children will focus on are:
- Personal and road safety.
- Saying no to bullying and restorative practice.
- Keeping healthy and being active.
- Medicines and keeping safe.
- Our bodies and what changes happen to them as we get older.
- The need for privacy and keeping our bodies safe.
