Why do we teach RE?

Our RE curriculum is designed to engage and enthuse learners whilst nurturing their understanding and awareness of belonging and diversity - whatever their own family background, personal beliefs and practices.

It is our intent that children will learn about a range of religions and world views and - through mutual respect, tolerance of others’ views and exposure to different religious views - pupils will gain a deep knowledge and understanding of the modern world.

In doing so, we enable our children to make their own informed decisions and to have the aspiration and confidence to voice their views.

In our schools, we follow Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus. The Gloucestershire Agreed Syllabus for RE has a threefold aim:

1. Understand how religious and non-religious worldviews influence people’s lives.

2. Engage with religious and non-religious worldviews in thoughtful and scholarly ways.

3. Understand themselves, and others, and their personal worldviews better.
